Alma Neuhaus, 95, of 221 S. Lincoln Drive, Howards Grove, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1992 at her residence of an extended illness. The former Alma Schroer was born July 31, 1897 in Fond du Lac County, a daughter of the late Henry William and Lena Reinhardt Schroer.
Alma Schroer and Albert Neuhaus were united in marriage on April 8, 1919 at Bethel United Church of Christ in Ada. The couple farmed north of Ada from 1921 to 1957. After retiring, they lived on a farm in the Town of Meeme from 1957 to 1977. They then moved to Howards Grove. Alma was a piano and organ teacher and was employed at Lakeland College for several years. Albert preceded her in death on July 28, 1981.
She was a life member of Bethel United Church of Christ, a charter member of the Ladies Aid, where she also was the organist for Bethel and St. Peter United Church of Christ in the Town of Rhine. She was a member of the Howards Grove Senior Citizens and the Farm Bureau.
Funeral services for Alma Neuhaus will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, 1:30 pm at Bethel United Church of Christ in Ada, with the Rev. Wayne Drueck officiating. Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery, Town of Meeme. Friends may call at the Zimmer Funeral Home in Howards Grove on Friday from 4 to 9 pm and at the church on Saturday from 11 am until the time of services.
Survivors of Alma Neuhaus include three sons, Harold (Dorothy) Neuhaus, rural Chilton; Arno (Irene) Neuhaus, McFarland, Wis., and Elmer (Virginia) Neuhaus, Rt. 1, Elkhart Lake; two daughters, Mrs. Helen (Reinhard) Ulrich and Mrs. Marie (Charles) Schwinn, both of Howards Grove; 21 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, three step grandchildren and one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Esther Neuhaus, Rt. 1, Elkhart Lake. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Esther, two sons, Armin and Roland; one grandson, one great grandchild; one grandson-in-law and three brothers. A memorial fund has been established in the name of Alma Neuhaus to Bethel United Church of Christ.
