Elmer was born Sept. 5, 1912, in the Town of Meeme, Manitowoc County, to Oscar and Mary Neuhaus Huber. He was baptized at Bethel Church in Ada. Elmer attended Pigeon River School in the town of Meeme, and then worked on farms in the area for fourteen years.
On June 18, 1938, he married Delores Barteck at First Evangelical Church in Sheboygan.
After moving to Sheboygan in 1941, Elmer was employed at H.C. Prange Co. for 37 years. He served in the United States Army for 13 months, near the end of World War II. Elmer was later employed by Ebenreiter Woodworking Co. (EBCO) for 10 years, and also self-employed doing yard maintenance and home repairs.
Elmer enjoyed working in his flower gardens, visiting relatives and traveling in much of the U.S. (including Hawaii) and Europe.
An active member of Fountain Park United Methodist Church, Elmer served as an usher, trustee and member of various committees and Sunday school classes through the years. He also belonged to the Christian businessmen’s Association.
Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 63 years, Delores; three sons, Jerome “Jerry” (Heidi) Huber of Sheboygan, Carl (Marilyn) Hube of Bethoud, Colo., and Dean (Deborah) Huber of Golden, Colo.; one daughter, Eileen (Ken) Bailey of Sheboygan; twenty-four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a foster daughter; one brother, Martin (Dorsey) Huber of Cleveland; one sister, Hilda (Elmer) Kraemer of Ada; and one brother-in-law, Fredrick Marx of Howards Groovel; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vivian Huber; two brother, Calvin and Ernst Huber; four sisters, Anna Neuhaus, Bertha Lowenbergh, Selma Terry and Martha Marx; two sisters-in-law; and three brothers-in-law.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, march 5, 2001 at 5:30 p.m. at Fountain Park United Methodist Church, 828 Erie Ave., in Sheboygan, with the Rev. Thomas White, pastor, officiating.
Visitation will be held from 3:30 p.m. until the time of service on Monday.
A memorial fund will be established in Elmer’s name for Fountain Park Church.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks for the care given to Elmer by the staff at Sheboygan Progressive Care Center.
