Paul Ertel Sr., 57, of Route 1, Cleveland, was pronounced dead at St. Nicholas Hospital early today after suffering a heart attack at his home.
Born April 24, 1923, in Sheboygan, he was a son of Christ and Sophia Gross Ertel. He graduated in 1941 from Sheboygan Central High School.
He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II.
His marriage to Audrey Hinz took place Dec. 6, 1947, at Cleveland.
Mr. Ertel was a general foreman at Tecumseh Co. in New Holstein, where he had worked the past 25 years.
He was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ in the Town of Herman and belonged to the Cleveland VFW Post 8974.
Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Herbert (Joan) Woelfel of Chilton, Mrs. Mark (Diana) DeRuyter of Sheboygan Falls, and Mrs. Peter (Janet) Wesley of Elkhart Lake; three sons, Paul W. of Cleveland, James and David, both at home; and seven grandchildren.
Also surviving are five brothers, Otto, LeRoy, Melvin, all of Cleveland, Walter of Milwaukee, and Edward of Fond du Lac; and a sister, Mrs. Joseph Salm of Newton.
The funeral will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Bethel UCC in the Town of Herman, the Rev. Hilbert Klein, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel after 4 p.m. Sunday until 11 a.m. Monday and at the church from noon until the time of services.
The Cleveland VFW will hold a memorial service at the funeral home Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Ertel's name.
