Born in a fort in Stark County, Ohio to Robert Francis (1769-1834) and Sarah Carter (1763-1834) Waddell. (His obituary states he was born in Belmont County, Ohio leaving his place of birth in question.) Absalom was reputed to be the first white male child born in Ohio although that fact is in some dispute. He had a fascinating life as a minister, physician and soldier and was a veteran of the War of 1812. He married his wife, Susanna in 1810 in Belmont County, Ohio. They were the parents of 14 children that I am aware of; Sarah Ann, Charles J., George I., Robert N., John N., Mary Ann, Josephus, Martha Jane, Julia Ann, Marie, Lucinda, Russell Bigelow, Hiram Shaffer and Matilda. He moved to Iowa in 1857.
