Bruce Horsley Is Found Dead – Stricken With Heart Attack Thursday Night At Stoner Avenue Home

Bruce P. Horsley, 48, World War veteran, was found dead in the bath room at 315 Stoner Avenue, where he resided, about 6:15 a.m. Friday. His death was attributed by Dr. Harry W. Paul, deputy Caddo Parish coroner, to a heart attack.

Mr. Horsley, who had been in failing health for some time, attended the 40 and 8 installation meeting held Thursday night, and returned to his home following the meeting. He was found dead, lying in the bath room, by one of the roomers at the Stoner Avenue address.

Active in Legion

He was a member of the American Legion Lowe-McFarlane Post No. 14 and for the past two years had been editor of the Legionnaire. He was also a member of Voiture No. 137 of the 40 and 8. Mr. Horsley took an active part in Legion affairs and had served on various committees, one of these being the hospital entertainment committee, and often accompanied veterans to the veterans' hospitals.

Mr. Horsley was born in Hepler County, Kansas, on May 19, 1896. He enlisted in the army on May 5, 1918, at Newkirk, Okla., and was discharged on Dec. 5, 1918, at Camp Zachary Taylor, Ky. He was a private first class in the field artillery.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Horsley; one brother, Lloyd Horsley, and one sister, Mrs. L. Hunt, all of Wichita, Kan., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at Rose-Neath funeral chapel, conducted by the American Legion chaplain. Interment will be in the veterans' plot in the Greenwood Cemetery. Members of the American Legion will act as pallbearers.
