Vern Hoerath, age 84, of St. Paul, NE, formerly of Fremont, NE died Monday, March 21, 2011 at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
He was born October 30, 1926 at Omaha, NE to William and Abbie (Hadan) Hoerath. He grew up at Fremont, NE. He served in the U.S. Navy March 14, 1945 to July 2, 1946. He began working for Hormel's as a refrigeration repairman January 7, 1951. He retired in 1984 and moved to St. Paul.
Vern married Ruth D. Dixon August 15, 1966 at St. Paul, NE. She died July 2, 1998.
He was a life member of V.F.W. Post #854 of Fremont and a member of American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul.
Survivors include: brothers – Bill Hoerath of Ames, NE and Irvan and wife Arla Hoerath of Fremont, NE; sister – Peggy Burch of Madras, OR; and sisters-in-law – Dixie and husband Otto Refflen of Seattle, WA and Beryl and husband Mac McMillan of Fallbrook, CA., and special friend Lonnie Stewart of St. Paul, NE.
He was preceded in death by: parents; and his wife, Ruth; 1 sister-in-law; and 1 brother-in-law.
The funeral will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 25, 2011 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, NE with The Rev. Michael McGregor officiating. Visitation with family receiving friends will be Thursday, March 24, 2011, 3-8 P.M. at Moser Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Fremont with full military honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post #854 and American Legion Post #20.
