James Owen Scott was born in St. Louis, MO to Walter Charles Scott and Ida Worthington Scott, he was the 8th of 12 children. He was a World War II veteran, seeing action at Normandy and in the European theater as a medic. He moved to California after the war and on a blind date he met the LOVE of his life, Winifred. They married and raised their family while he worked for the L.A. Area Boy Scouts, Northrop, United Way and in his later years, as an accountant. They celebrated 61 years of marriage this past January. He was devoted to the LDS church and served as 2nd Councilor for the San Pedro Ward, as Bishop of the Long Beach 1st Ward and on the High Council. He is survived by his wife, Winifred (Thomas); son, Donald (Dalene) Scott; daughter, Tamara Kritz (Ron); grandchildren: Tina Zlaket (David), Tara Carnes, Justin Larison, Donald Scott, Jr. (Jane), Lauren Scott, Emily Scott, Dallin Scott; great-grandchildren, Gabriella and Roman; and sister, Catherine McClanahan of St. Louis, MO. Services are to be held Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at A.M. Gamby Funeral Home, Lomita at 9:30 AM. Interment at Riverside National Cemetery with military honors.
