MRS. IRVIN HARSHBARGER
Mrs. Almira Blanch Harshbarger was born in Strodes Mills, Mifflin County, Penn., February 24, 1875 and died at her late home in Onarga, Illinois, January 28, 1934, at the age of 59 years, 9 months, and 4 days. She was married to Irvin Harshbarger at her home in Penn. June 22, 1898 by the Rev. J. C. Swigert officiating. To this union were born ten children, three daughters and seven sons. The three daughters, Evelyn Mae, Ethel Almira, and an infant unnamed, preceded their mother to the heavenly world. The seven sons with their father, survive to mourn their loss. They are Lawrence Harshbarger, of Mattoon, Ill., Wilbur of Chicago, Charles of Melvin, George of Onarga, Henry of Doty, Washington, Stanley and Oscar, both of Onarga. There are also five grandchildren, Mardell, Lawrence Jr., Patricia Louise, Renal Dean, and Dona Mae Harshbarger. Mrs. Harshbarger united with the Brethren church in 1901, at McVeytown, Penn. And lived a consistent Christian life until the day of her death. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors, at Melvin, Ill. Mr. and Mrs. Harshbarger moved from Pennsylvania to Illinois and located at Fisher, February 27, 1908. They remained there two years and six months and then moved to Melvin, Illinois where they lived for twenty-one years. They moved to Onarga in 1932. Mrs. Harshbarger was an exemplary Christian woman, which is reflected in her sons, all of whom are highly respected men. Death came to Mrs. Harshbarger quite unexpectedly. She retired Sunday night, January 28th, in her usual health. She awoke about midnight with severe pains in her stomach and in the region of her heart. She was assisted to a chair, and died within ten minutes. The cause of death was a severe attack of acute indigestion. The funeral service will be held at the First Methodist Episcopal church, Friday afternoon, February 2, at 2:30. The funeral will be in charge of Rev. John T. Jones. The funeral sermon will be preached by the Rev. John A. Decker, pastor of the Methodist church at Clifton, Illinois. Mr. Decker was at one time pastor at Melvin, where the family lived, and is a warm friend of the family. The American Legion Quartet, of Melvin, consisting of the following members: Leslie Arends, George Arends, Alfred Arends, and Alfred Ehman, will sing, accompanied by Miss Hannah Arends, on the piano. Six of the sons will be pallbearers. Interment at Onarga cemetery. Mr. Fred Amerman is the funeral director. She was buried in Onarga Cemetery, Onarga, Iroquois, IL
