Eugene S. "Punk" Burt Sr., 81 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health for the past 4 months.
Eugene was born February 19, 1930 in Monroe, MI the son of the late Dennison and Cecelia (Knaggs) Burt Sr.
Eugene served our country proudly in the US Army from March 1951 to December 1952.
On June 5, 1954 Eugene married his beloved wife the former Barbara J. Hance in Monroe, MI.
Eugene was employed by the Detroit Toledo Shoreline Rail Road as a maintenance man and as a machine operator until his retirement in 1991 after 45 years of service.
Eugene enjoyed gardening, riding his motorcycle and woodworking, where he built many bird houses and wishing wells to share with family and friends.
Most of all Eugene enjoyed spending time with his loving family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Eugene is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Barbara, 3 loving children; Eugene S. (Shawna) Burt Jr., Pat A. (Allan) Biedlingmaier and Tina D. (Luis) Alamo all of Monroe, 10 cherished grandchildren; Jason, Justin, and Carlina, Alamo, Joni and Erich Biedlingmaier, Tabitha Burt, Ben and Alyssa Collingsworth, Kellie Toeppe and Jesse Biedlingmaier, 11 treasured great grandchildren and his sister Sherry Duffey of Abilene, TX. In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by a daughter; Eugenia Collingsworth, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, funeral services celebrating Eugene's life will be held on Monday, March 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Von Loop will officiate. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
