LEWISTON — James Francis Mudd, of Lewiston, NY passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at his home, under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice. He was born in Louisville, KY, on October 8, 1927, the son of the late Michael Francis and Marie (Klein) Mudd.

Mr. Mudd graduated from the University of Louisville in 1951 with a master's degree in Chemical Engineering, and worked for the Occidental Chemical Co. in Niagara Falls for 30 years. He moved to Lewiston in 1961 and was very active in the Democratic Party for 50 years, serving as Chairman of the Town Democratic Committee, and as Vice-Chairman of the Niagara County Democratic Committee. In 1989, he was elected to the Lewiston Town Board.

Mr. Mudd was an active member of St. Peter's Church for many years and the Niagara University parish. After retirement, he served as a teacher's aide through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and as Chairman of the Niagara County chapter of the Parkinson's Disease Support Group.

Mr. Mudd is survived by his wife of 56 years, Therese M. (Simmons) Mudd; they were married April 23, 1955; six children, Michael Mudd of Cincinnati, OH, Peggy (Robert) Cagle of Rochester, Dr. Kevin (Brenda) Mudd of Rochester, Ellen Mudd of Lewiston, Andrew (Becky) Mudd of Richmond, VA, and Mary (Larry) Sanderson of Cincinnati, OH; five grandchildren, Aaron Mudd, Jennifer and Brian Mudd, Luke Sanderson and Christopher Mudd; one brother, Robert (Mary) Mudd of Columbus, OH. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Martha Cumblidge.
