He is survived by his mother, Irene Wale Smith; his wife, Clemmie Payne Smith; two sons, David W Smith and Thomas J Smith; a daughter, Helen Marie Smith Holmes; one brother, J Bert Smith; two sisters, Mrs. Earl T Conella and Mrs. Leon Paul; and eight grandchildren.
