WALTER J. LOBDELL.

The funeral of Walter J. Lobdell whose body was brought to Ashland from Plainville, Connecticut was held at the Baptist Church last Saturday forenoon with Rev. Emmet Russell officiating. Burial was in the family lot at (Green Grove Cemetery.) The members of the Passaconaway Lodge, K. of P., attended the funeral in a body and performed their rites both at the church and the grave. The bearers were Harvey Morse, Harry Murdock, Earle Sanborn, Leon Goddard, Lawrence Kelley and Harold Smith.

Walter was born in Saranac, Clinton County, New York August 21, 1857 where he spent his early life. For eighteen years he was a resident of Ashland. He worked as surveyor of railroads which took him to all eastern states. He helped build the Delaware and Hudson Railroad. After leaving Ashland he went to New Britain, Connecticut where he was a contractor for the Dupont Powder Company. Mr. Lobdell is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ernest Smith of Ashland and Mrs. Albert Avery of Meredith, one son, Robert Lobdell of South Windsor, Connecticut, four brothers, Solon and Homer of Pawlet, Vermont, James and Jack Lobdell of Saranac, New York, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Day and Miss Kate Gonyea, both of Plattsburg, New York, several grandchildren and other more distant relatives.

Among those from out of town who were present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lobdell, son and daughter of South Windsor, Connecticut, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Lobdell of Plainville, Connecticut, Mr. and Mrs. Gustaf Nilsson of New Britain, Connecticut, Mrs. Charles Evans, Jersey City, New Jersey, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Avery and family of Manchester, Mr. and Mrs. Solon Lobdell of Wells, Vermont, Mary Day of Plattsburg, New York, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Lobdell, Raceville, New York, Mrs. Kate Gonyea, Plattsburg New York, Mr. and Mrs. Derwald, Fair Haven, Vermont, Mr. Joseph Chivell, Alexandria, Mr. Wylie Chivell, West Rumney and Mr. Stephen Ahern, Plymouth. >The Ashland Citizen, October 25, 1930, p2.
