Karen Wingate Agnew, 54, of Roanoke, joined the angels in heaven on Saturday, March 25, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randall Wayne Agnew. Karen was a 1974 graduate of Cave Spring High School and a 1978 graduate of the Jefferson College of Health Sciences. Her most recent nursing employment was with The Glebe and Brian Center Nursing Home. As a nurse, Karen took great pride in helping patients to heal. She loved laughing with friends, beach vacations, gardening, history and most of all her children and grandchildren. Surviving are her children, J. Matthew Walters, of Charleston, SC, Melanie Walters Crawley & husband, Brett, Maura A. Walters, Joshua Ryan Agnew, all of Roanoke; grandchildren, Meredith Rose Crawley, Owen William Crawley; parents, Joe D. & Imogene B. Wingate of Salem; sister, Susan Wingate Fleming & husband, Garry; brother, Joseph Gregory Wingate & wife, Kimberly, all of Roanoke; special friend and "sweetie", Edgar J. Wilson; special friends, Regina & Mario Adams, Teresa & Leonard Smith; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society , 2840 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018 or to Southview United Methodist Church, 3539 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011 by Pastor Larry Edmonds. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday March 28, 2011 at Simpson Funeral Home.
