Wayne Leonard Cameron, son of the late James "Bob" Robert Cameron and Clara J. (Smith) Cameron, was born Aug. 11, 1922, on the family farm near Licking, Mo. He departed this life on March 23, 2011, surrounded by his family at his home in St. Joseph, Mo.

Wayne served his country in the Army during World War II and received the combat infantry badge, and also several campaign stars, medals and ribbons. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #6760 at St. Joseph, Mo.

He was united in marriage to Ora Stone in October 1944. To this union three children were born.

After the war he was an agent for Standard Oil through the 1950's and then a highway construction supervisor in the 1960's for Land Construction Company and Herzog Contracting Company, which he enjoyed traveling through Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas and Missouri building highways.

He loved piloting his own plane for many years.

Wayne and Ora enjoyed staying at Toledo Bend Lake, at their retirement home. He also got enjoyment from planting a large garden every year and sharing his produce with his neighbors, friends and relatives.

Preceding Wayne in death were his son, Dennis "Denny" Lynn Cameron; grandson, Travis Cameron; brother, Lynn Cameron, step-grandson Robert and step-granddaughter Misty.

Survivors include his wife, Ora Cameron of the home; son, James "Jimmy" Wayne Cameron and wife Denise of West Plains, Mo.; daughter, Suzan Marie Barber of St. Joseph, Mo.; grandchildren, nieces, nephews and numerous other family and friends.

Service for Mr. Cameron was Sunday, March 27, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Fox Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Gorman officiating.

All arrangements were under direction of Fox Funeral Home.
