Voyd was born March 16, 1937, to J. Reed Stewart and Vera Amanda Smith in Idaho Falls. He was raised in Osgood and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He served in the U.S. Army for two years after graduation.
He married Dixie Diane Dial on Nov. 21, 1958. He farmed and raised cattle in the Osgood and Shelley areas. During this time, they raised a family of six children. In 1990 they moved to Hermiston, OR, where he worked for Mikami Brothers. Voyd and Dixie moved back to Shelley in 2001 to be closer to family after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many different callings. He enjoyed being outside, spending time with his family, fishing and hunting.
Voyd is survived by his wife, Dixie, of Shelley; son, Voyd D. (Wendi) Stewart, of Shelley; daughters: Sandra (Jeff) Legg, of Billings, MT, Christine (Grant) Williamson, of Herriman, UT, Susan (Steve) Burk, of Ogden, UT, Diane (Garth) Hall, of Idaho Falls, and Ellen (Karl) Ransom, of Boise; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his siblings: Joe Stewart, of Idaho Falls, Linda (Neal) Boyce and Russell (Lorraine) Stewart, both of Shelley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Vaudis.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, at the Shelley 1st Ward chapel, 184 N. Park Ave., with Bishop Thane Bolander officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, March 29, at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W. Oak St. in Shelley, and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Interment will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by David B. Bleak Post No. 93, assisted by the Idaho Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association , P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011, or at www .alz.org.
