Lincoln-Eugene A. "Bud" Whitney, 85, husband of L. Marjorie (Petersen) Whitney, died February 13, 2008, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born June 26, 1922, in Bangor, the son of Harry and Della (Brown) Whitney.

Bud served in the U.S. Army during WWII serving in the Pacific Theater.

He owned and operated Bud's Amoco gas and oil business for many years.

He was an avid fan and supporter of local sports. He was a member of Horeb Lodge #93 AF & AM where he worked his way through the chairs and a member of the Jaycees until an Exhausted Rooster. As president of the Jaycees, he held the first Miss America Preliminary Pageant. He also served as Jaycee State Vice President. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Lincoln, was Past Superintendent of the Congregational Sunday School, Past member of the Board of Trustees of the church on which he served as Chairman and also served as a church usher and greeter. He worked on the River Driver's Supper for many years. Bud served nine years on the Lincoln School Board. He served on the Seniority and Community Relations Committees at Penobscot Valley Hospital. He was a 29 year member and Past President of the Lincoln Lions Club and was Chairman of Lincoln's first Alumni Association in 1989. He was also active in the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce until his retirement.

In addition to his wife, Marjorie (Peterson)(married June 15, 1946 in Lincoln, Me.), of Lincoln, he is survived by four children, Eugene A. Whitney, Jr. and his wife, Melissa, of West Dummerston, VT, Ann Stubbs and her husband, John, of Bangor, Tom Whitney and his wife, Jan, of Lincoln and Joyce Severance and her husband, Earl, of Lee; six grandchildren, Scott Morrill and Wendy of Bangor, Lori Ann Whitney Stubbs of Bangor, Amanda Whitney of Portland, Kati Whitney of Westbrook, Laci Whitney of Steep Falls and Tom Severance of Lee; two great-grandchildren, Paige and Jake Morrill of Bangor; a sister, Louise Briggs and her husband, Allison, of Brewer; brother-in-law, Donald Petersen and his wife Glen, of Wilmington, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, L. Marie Harding, of Lincoln.

He was predeceased by a brother, Roland Whitney and a sister, Ruth Whitney.
