Obituary Xenia Gazette April 14, 1890:
At half-past eight o'clock yesterday morning Mr. John D. Conwell, aged seventy years, breathed his last at his home, near New Jasper. He had been feeble for several months and during the past six weeks had been much worse the trouble being a complication of diseases and general giving way of the system.
Mr. Conwell was born and reared in Greene County. Three of his immediate family are living, one brother, Mr. Samuel Conwell, of north-east of this city, and two sisters, Mrs. Geo. Gowdy, of near this city, and Mrs. Wilson, of Clifton.
The deceased was married twice, his second wife still surviving, and with five children, Daniel, of this place, Clarence, of near New Jasper, Mrs. Huldah Koontz, of near Dayton, Walter and Miss Mattie, who reside at home, deeply feel the death of a kind husband and father.
Mr. Conwell was a consistent member of the Jasper Methodist church. The funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at the residence at 10 o'clock, the services being conducted by Rev. Mr. Dudley. Interment in Woodland cemetery.
