Corporal Leroy John Baker, 33, a nine-year veteran of the State Police, was accidentally electrocuted while performing duties at an accident scene on 24 August 1930. Corporal Baker was the first Trooper on the scene of a car accident that snapped a utility pole, which fell and blocked the Caroga Lake-Johnstown Road. He was in the process of removing the pole from the highway when he accidentally touched a wire carrying 2,300 volts.
Corporal Baker served with the Marines during World War I and entered the State Police in 1921. He was promoted to Corporal in 1927.
