Yvonne Renee Champeaux Sampelayo passed away Nov 18, 2009 after a long illness. She was born in Seattle Washington on Feb. 26, 1930 to Henry and Irene (Smith) Champeaux. Her brother, George, died in 1995. Her husband of 43 years, Jose', passed away in 1992.

Yvonne had an adventurous young life. After losing their home in Seattle during the depression, the family moved to Coupeville on Whidbey Island. There, they lived with Yvonne's Maternal Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She always remembered those times fondly. Her Father then moved the family to Sultan Wa. He had a job as a Bookkeeper for Miller Logging Co in Index, Wa. The family then moved back to Seattle, where Yvonne attended Helen Bush School until her graduation in 1948.

At a very young age, Yvonne began piano lessons and her love of classical music was born. She won an all city piano competition in Seattle as a young girl. Later, Yvonne attended the UW as a music major. She met another UW student, Jose' on a blind date. They married on October 6th 1949. Yvonne was a natural teacher. She taught private piano lessons in the greater Seattle area for more than 30 years. She touched many young lives over her long career of teaching. Her students always looked forward to the creative and fun piano recitals she had twice a year.

In addition to having a career and five children, Yvonne's love of learning never stopped.

She belonged to a Garden Club, was a Bluebird and Campfire leader and became a professional Genealogist. She found time to sing with "The Mothersingers" choir, bought the first home computer, the "Trash 80" by Radio Shack and loved to go "Antiquing". Yvonne's love of family and friends and wonderful sense of humor will never be forgotten.

Mrs. Sampelayo is survived by five children: Elena Everts, Skip Sampelayo, Marcela (Gary) Carson, Carla (Bob) Talbert and Mara Conrad. She has fifteen Grandchildren, five Great Grandchildren, a nephew and many other cousins.

At Mrs. Sampelayo's request, a viewing will be held at Wiggen and Sons Funeral Home 2003 NW 57th ST Seattle WA on Monday, November 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Burial of her ashes will be at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Coupeville, WA planned for Spring of 2010.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to your favorite charity.

Golden Slumbers Mom.
