Son of John Duffey and Catherine. Obituary:

John Duffey old resident of Mankato Died at Zion City this morning.

Murray Pearson today received a telegram announcing the death of John Duffey, which occurred this morning at his home in Zion City near Chicago of Bright's disease. After a brief illness Mr Duffey visited his sons in vicinity this past summer and upon returning home he was taken sick. He gradually grew worse until death relieved him of all suffering this morning. Many friends will regret to learn of his death.
Mr. Duffey resided in Mankato for over 40 years. He was born in Canada 65 years ago and moved to New York State where he was married. Mr Duffey married Maria Goodenough daughter of Jonathan and Sarah (Mede) Goodenough, from New York state on the 21st of June 1866. Mr and Mrs Duffey moved to Mankato 40 years ago and lived in West Mankato. He was a contractor by trade and later purchased a farm on the Red Jacket road which he cultivated going there in the morning and returning home at night. He was a hard working industrious man, whose word was as good as his bond. Honest and upright in his dealings and through hard work Mr. Duffey accumulated considerable property and was well to do. He had many warm friends since moving to Zion City, eight or 9 years ago he has lived a retired life.
Mr. Duffey is survived by his wife and 3 sons the latter being, William, Lester and John all of whom have farms in this vicinity.
John Duffey, and Mrs. William Duffey when notified of Mr. Duffey's dangerous condition left of Zion City and are now there. Its is thought that perhaps the remains will be brought here for burial.
John had passed on property to his son's William, Lester and John. The William Duffey's farm eventually was passed onto his daughter Stella and son-in-law Joseph Ziegler. Kenneth Ziegler and Joan Ziegler had lived on the farm for many years. William Duffey's son Ed moved to the Fairmont MN area and there are many descendants in that area. The farm homestead that Lester Duffey lived on was at one time later owned by the Martin Bruender family. John and his wife Ida moved to Washington State where some of their family lived. Lester and Minnie moved to the Lake Crystal area and lived near Harry & Florence Duffey as well Kenneth Duffey family.
