Elmer Lee Jennings was born on January 6, 1918, in the small farming community of Blevins, Texas, to James Theodore and Carrie Belle Litteral Jennings. As with many families of the time, E.L., his brothers, and sisters worked the fields after school and during summers, each especially disliking "picking cotton".
Enlisting, as a private, on February 2, 1942, he served in World War II, stationed in France and England. He reached the rank of Staff Sergeant prior to being honorably discharged in December 1945.
On January 3, 1946, E.L. married Mary Kathryn White, daughter of Ralph Newton and Irene Moore White, in Center Point, Texas. To this union were born; Michael Lee, Patrick Lyn, and Nancy Ann. While his children were attending elementary school, he served on the CP school board, along with being active in the Lion's Club and church.
The family moved the short distance to Kerrville in 1960, where E.L.'s residential construction business grew, along with his involvement in the community.
After retirement, Elmer Lee and Mary moved to Lakeway, Texas, where both were very active in their church and with their grandchildren. They enjoyed friends, family, auctions, and the good life!
On the morning of January 3, 1989, their 43rd wedding anniversary, both died of injuries from a head-on collision caused by a young driver speeding. Left to grieve; their children and spouses, Michael L. and Sarah Jennings of Austin, Patrick L. and Sylvia Jennings of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Nancy Van Ostrand of Austin; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Joanna, and Geoff Jennings of Austin, Brandon and Cory Jennings of Corpus Christi, Jason Flores of Kerrville, Megan Taylor and John Van Ostrand of Austin. Survivors also include sisters, Josephine Kincannon and Lucille Dickson, both of Waco, brothers, and spouses. Garvice and Dru Jennings of Sugar Land, Texas, Smith and Kathryn Jennings of Tucson, Arizona, Eugene and Irene Jennings of Spencer, Oklahoma, Ray Jennings of Arlington, Texas, brother in law, Kenneth Greer of Waco, sister in law Ann and husband Jim Griffin of Grand Prarie, Texas, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
