Margaret E. Garrett

Margaret Elizabeth Garrett, 89, of Carillon Assisted Living in Hillsborough, N.C., formerly of Fredericksburg, passed away at Durham Regional Hospital on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011.

She was a lifetime member of Fredericksburg Baptist Church, past president of the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad Auxiliary, and a volunteer at Mary Washington Hospital for 30 years. She also worked for Elkins Funeral Home.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Grooters and husband Wayne of Durham, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Addison Brown and Georgianna Grooters.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Elwood Garrett, who was the former manager of Oak Hill Cemetery; and two sisters.

The family will receive friends at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, on Friday, Feb. 25, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Services will be private.
