When Ray Alexander Copeland was born on October 12, 1898, in Dennison, Texas, his father, Cephas Clemmons Copeland, was 28 and his mother, Sarah Ann "Annie" Young, was 25. He married Gladys (Clara Ann) Lyman about 1915, in Roswell, Chaves, New Mexico. They had one child during their marriage, Ann Copeland. Ray and Gladys owned the Sinclair gas station in Kingfisher. He died on August 7, 1982, in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, at the age of 83, and was buried there. He left behind his widow Gladys, his daughter Ann Copeland, and her daughter Barbara Smith.

Ray's full siblings by mother Sarah Ann Young were Allie Joe Copeland, Margaret Lourine Copeland, and Katherine Clemmons "Kate" Hatton. His half-siblings by stepmother Cora Neil Slaughter were Orlin Cephus Copeland, Homer Lee Copeland, Jones Delbert Copeland, Roger Neil Copeland, James Dalton Copeland, and Clinton Clemmons "Babe" Copeland.

Gravesite Details

Cora Slaughter was actually Ray's stepmother. She raised him, and was very close to Ray. In her later years, she lived with Ray and his family. I was told that Ray's biological mother died giving birth to him, and there is no FAG memorial for her.
