Nancy was the daughter of James and Jane Steele. She married James Hollett/Hallett (son of John and Margaret) on July 18, 1861, in Dane County, Wisconsin.

Her husband James later married Nancy Strangeway in 1866 (buried in Mt Pleasant as "Hallett"). After Nancy's death, James maried Julia Martin in Milwaukee.
