Eleanor B. Honeywell, 95, a resident of Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and formerly of Montrose, PA, went to her eternal home with the Lord March 24, 2011 at the Village following an illness.
Born January 9, 1916 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Laura (Steeley) and James Berryman. Eleanor attended Wilkes-Barre public schools, graduating from E.L. Meyers High School in 1934. She subsequently worked in retail.
In 1940 she married Charles Clinton Honeywell, also of Wilkes-Barre. They resided in northern New Jersey, where their two children were born , and in 1956 moved from Bergenfield to Montrose, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, where they mostly resided until Clinton's death in 1991. Her husband had worked for The Bendix Corporation. They were active in the Methodist and Presbyterian churches in Montrose and later Calvary Bible Fellowship Church in Scranton (Dunmore), where Eleanor accompanied congregational hymns playing the piano. In the early 1970's they attended the Federated Church in Lafayette, New Jersey while briefly residing at Lake Mohawk. Eleanor moved to Messiah Village in 1993, joining Messiah Village Church (Brethren in Christ).
She enjoyed sewing, ceramics, cooking, gardening, and Christian authors and radio. Active during the 1960's in the Wyoming Conference Methodist Homes Guild, Eleanor had once belonged to the Montrose Music Club.
Surviving are her sons: Charles (and wife, Anne) of Mechanicsburg and Ronald of Leola, PA. They recall with gratitude her lifelong devotion to their family as loving wife, mother, and homemaker. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her three sisters and ten brothers.
A private service of interment for Mrs. Honeywell will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery in South Wilkes-Barre, Hanover Township, Luzerne County with arrangements by Cocklin Funeral Home, Dillsburg, PA. A memorial service of remembrance at Messiah Village will be announced.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolent Fund of Messiah Village, 100 Mount Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
