On 4 February 1774, his baptism was recorded and Johannis and Rebecka Van Blarcom were listed as his parents. Van Blarcom was spelled as V. Berkom in this baptism record.
He married Abigail Bush in 1795, in Oakland, Bergen, New Jersey, United States. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 2 daughters. He married a second time to Martha Pulis, widow of William W. Winter in 6 June 1824.
He died on 16 June 1824, in Oakland, Bergen, New Jersey, United States, at the age of 50, and was buried in Ponds Cemetery, Oakland, Bergen, New Jersey, United States.
