He was survived by his wife, Sally; 1 son and daughter-in-law; 2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter; 2 brothers, Severine Baalman and Joseph Baalman, Jr., both of Hardin; and 2 sisters, Rosella Baalman of Alton, Illinois, and Frances Hurley of Hardin.
In addition to his parents, Gilbert was preceded in death by 1 brother, Victor Baalman, Sr.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on 01 Aug 2003 at Hanks-Gubser Funeral Home in Hardin. A funeral Mass was conducted at 11 a.m. that morning at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Meppen. Burial was in the church cemetery with military rites performed graveside by the American Legion.
Gilbert's wife, Sally, passed away in 2015 and was interred next to him.
