Mountain Democrat 18 Sep 1886
"Hon. Henry Mahler arrived in Coloma yesterday accompanied by his brother-in-law, Mr. J. T. Preddy. It is plasant to see the Senator's face among us again, and it is very gratifying to know that the "monopolist's money bag" had not the power to dim the luster of honesty in his eyes."

Sudden Death Of Henry Mahler
"Word just received from San Francisco announces the death of Henry Mahler, a well known former resident of Coloma, who a one time represented El Dorado County in the Assembly and was among the prominent men of the time For twenty years past he has held the position of Superintendent in the U.S. Mint in San Francisco. Only ten days ago the Democrat received a note from him renewing his subscription; and closing with these words, "We cannot do without the dear old home paper, although it saddens us to see how rapidly the old friends are passing away." Five days later he fell to the floor of his office unconscious, and died that evening from heart trouble combined with bronchitis.
Me. Mahler was a native of South Carolina, aged 65 years. He is survived by a widow and one daughter; a sister, Mrs. T. J. Preddy of San Francisco; and two brothers, W. F. Mahler of Sacramento, and A. J. Mahler of Vacaville."
