George L. Reed, Jr., of Bedford, Va., was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 2, 2011.

He is the son of the late George L. Reed and [Alberta] Nena Reed-Allnutt.

George and the love of his life, Marion, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this past November. Together they raised two sons, George Reed, husband to Marjorie, and James Reed, husband to Barbara. He was the grandfather of Jimmy, Jennifer, Alison, and Georgie. George also leaves behind his beloved dog Taffy.

George was retired from the U.S.D.A. as a meat inspector. He served in the US Army for three years and in the Army Reserves for six years. He was a Master Mason and member of Westmoreland Lodge No. 212 A. F. & A. M., Kinsale, Va., a member of Bedford Masonic Lodge No. 244, and a former Shriner. George also served with numerous church missions abroad and was a member of Morgans Baptist Church.

Late in his life George had a passion for wood carving, and he shared his many carvings with family and friends throughout the nation.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Hilton Funeral Home, Barnesville, Md., with Daniel Wheeler, pastor of The Dwelling Place, Moneta, Va., officiating. George was laid to rest in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville, Md.

He is greatly missed by his family and friends.
