Debbie, 57, of Granger, IN., formerly of Lansing, MI.
went to be with Jesus Wednesday, with family by her side. She was born to Maurice Baldwin and Levina "Barney" Yeager. Her father preceded her in death. She often helped her mother "Barney" at the Lansing City Market, selling flowers and produce in order to put herself through college at Michigan State University.
On May 4, 1978, Debbie married the love of her life, Dennis P. Porter. He survives. She is also survived by two
daughters, Latasha (Matthew) Little of Greenfield, IN and Beth Porter (David English) of Fort Wayne; mother, Levina "Barney" (Gordon) Yeager of Lansing, MI; and siblings, John Baldwin of Houston, TX, Sherry Wolf of Fairbanks, AK, and Jim Baldwin of Manistee, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
Debbie will be missed by many-she inspired and touched a lot of people throughout her life. When she decided to do something, she excelled at it and never gave up when confronted with an obstacle. She had a passion for teaching (she was a teacher at LaPorte High School) and loved all her students. She also had a passion for animals. One of her favorite hobbies was growing things, and was a great gardener, as well as an amazing artist/decorator and cook. She enjoyed traveling with family; one of her favorite places to visit was Lake Michigan. She always knew how to make everyone feel loved and cared for and always had an energetic positive outlook on life. She was a devoted mother, loving wife, caring daughter, and always put others first.
The world is a better place for Debbie having lived here and she will be genuinely missed.
A memorial service was held Sunday April 3, 2011 at Hope Baptist Church, Holt, MI.
Memorial donations can be made to the St. Joe County Humane Society, Mishawaka, IN.
