"Jean Blair had keen interest in plants.
"Mrs. Jean M. Blair, 67, of Franklin RD 2, who had a keen interest in horticulture and raised a number of varieties of plants, d. at 2:55 a.m. today in West Unit of Franklin Regional Medical center following an illness of several months. She was b. March 6, 1918 at Nicklin, a daughter of Clinton and Berthene Temple Runninger. She attended Nicklin School and graduated from Franklin High School. She was m. to LeRoy Blair on Feb 14, 1943 and they had lived at their Bredinsburg Road home since 1948. Mrs. Blair was co-owner with her husband of Blair Tractor Sales. Mrs. Blair had a long-standing avocation in raising a number of kinds of plants with African violets as her most recent interest. She raised plants in quantity and sold them at a number of places and she was also a frequent speaker on the subject of growing violets. She was a member of the Rainbow African Violet Club of Meadville. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Franklin, was a volunteer in the meals-on-Wheels program, and belonged to the arts and crafts group at Bredinsburg, and helped decorate the holiday trees at the Franklin Public Library since the project was started. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Eliaser (Linda) Intrator; Mrs. David (Diana) Hatfield; Mrs. Robert (Charlotte) Stewart; one son, George Blair; eight grand children; one sister, Mrs. Claire Croup of Opa Locka, FL and one brother Fred Runninger of Harrisonburg, VA. One sister Mrs. Richard (Frances) Henry and two brother, Ralph and Kenneth are deceased. Arrangements are in charge of Louis H. Osenider Funeral Home, Oil City. The body will be cremated and the cremains will be interred in Bredinsburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday with a memorial service, written by the family, to be held at 4 p.m. Dr. William Smith, interim pastor of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the cranberry Lions Activity Fund, the Visiting Nurses Association of Venango Co. Franklin Public Library, the YMCA or the Oncology Unit of Franklin Regional Medical Center.
