Larry E. Jern, age 75, of Oquawka, passed away at 6:00 a.m., Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghusrt, Ill. He was born on February 7, 1936 in Oquawka, the son of Phillip A. and Velma E. Johnston Jern. Larry worked for years as a caretaker assisting his father and grandfather at the Oquawka Township Cemetery. He worked for the Village of Oquawka Maintenance, street, and Water Department. He also worked for a number of years at Selby's. Larry was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Larry enjoyed playing pool and collected hats. He also loved riding his bike along with his brother Hal and visiting his family and friends.
Larry is survived by his sister Bonnie Fox (Wayne) of Oquawka, Ill., Brothers; Lloyd "Hal" Jern (Betty) of Oquawka, Rick Jern (Priscilla) of Colorado Springs, Co., sisters; Rhonda Jern of Oquawka, Robin Tassin (Troy) of Oquawka, Nephew Troy Jern of Oquawka, and Cousins James "Slim" McGann (Barb) and Sherry Wren (Robert) of Monmouth. Aunt Phyllis Jern of Galesburg, Ill., and Aunt and Uncle Robert and Vera Jern. Also surviving is his sister-in-law Sharon Jern, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Demaris Jern and one Brother Pete Jern.

Services: Cremation has been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 27, 2011 at the Oquawka Eagles Club. A memorial fund has been established.
