Byron served as a Seaman Second Class, U.S.S. Duluth ( CL-87 ), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Smyrna, Delaware prior to the war.

U.S.S. Duluth ( CL-87 ) operated as a training cruiser based in Newport, Rhode Island, from December 14, 1944 through March 2, 1945 as her crew familiarized themselves with the ship.

During a training exercise off Newport, Rhode Island Byron accidentally fell over board and they were unable to rescue him.

This record is a Cenotaph in his honor.
