Religious Leader. He was the founder of the Knights of Columbus. First buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Waterbury, Connecticut, to mark the 100th anniversary of the Knights of Columbus in 1982, with canonical and civil approval, they brought the remarkably well preserved remains of Father McGivney from Waterbury back to St Mary's Church, New Haven, where he founded the order. He was ordained a priest in Baltimore's historic Cathedral of the Assumption by Archbishop James Gibbons on December 22, 1877. His two younger brothers became priests, also and later in 1901 to 1939, his younger brothers, Msgrs. Patrick and John J. McGivney, served the Order as supreme chaplains.
