Benjamin Hesser was born in Marion County, Ohio, February 2, 1830, and died November 20, 1913, aged 83 years, 9 months and 19 days. He moved from Ohio to Indiana, and came to Kansas in the year 1877. He was one of the first settlers in Alta Vista, and had been a continuous resident here until his death. He had been a sufferer for 20 years, but never gave up the battle until a few weeks ago, when he was compelled to take his bed and remained until the final summons. He was a member of the Christian Church. He leaves a wife and ten children, one brother and two sisters, besides many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the Baptist Church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. O. Heide, and interment was made in the White Cemetery, east of town. The pall-bearers were: G.W. Snodgrass, Wm. Addie, Pete Ash, I. Johnson, B. J. Ross and Geo. W. Johnson. Mrs. Bertha Johnson of Olathe, Mrs. Dora German, of Ft. Scott, and Mrs. Perkins of Colorado, his daughters were here to attend the funeral, and also his son, Lem Hesser, of western Kansas, was here. Alta Vista Journal.
