Delores "Dee" VanDenbark Griffin, 1931 – 2011
Dee was the youngest of nine children born on a ranch in Baca County, Colo. to Roy and Annabel Findley. She attended New Hope, a one room schoolhouse. Dee met and married Lowell VanDenbark (m. 1949-1969). They had three daughters, Judy Cook of Shelbyville, KY., Helen Wilson of Wichita, KS. and LoAnn (Oct-Nov. 1956).
Dee enjoyed working in her community. She was an active lifetime member of VFW Post 3641 and considered it a privilege to join the fight for veterans' rights.
Dee met and married James E. Griffin in 1973. They lived in Barstow, Calif. for 12 years, then retired to Pueblo West in 1984. They were charter members of Majestic Baptist Church, Pueblo West.
Dee is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Annabel and siblings, Joyce Wait Boley, Eleanore Findley, Henry Findley, Albert Findley, Mary Ellen Drennan, and Roy Findley. She is survived by her two daughters, Judy and Helen; grandsons, Mark Cox, Shelbyville, Ky. and Kenneth Cook, Monticello, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Xavier, Samuel, and Sasha; brother, Lealand Findley, Denver, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Virginia Findley, Campo, Colo. and Barbara (Leo) Diel, Tulsa, Okla., numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Thank you to Sangre de Cristo Hospice and Tammy and Marty's Cozy Adult Care Home for taking excellent care of our Dee.
Viewing from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel.
Funeral service, 2 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2011, at Majestic Baptist Church, 494 E. Hemlock Dr., Pueblo West. Dee will be buried with Jim at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver. Online condolences, MontgomerySteward.com
