J.E. Crafton, age 78, of Thompson's Station, died Oct. 4, 2007 in Franklin.
Mr. Crafton was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Bradford Crafton; and parents, Robert E. & Nona Smith Crafton.

He is survived by his son, Roger E. (Lori) Crafton of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughters, Patty (Danny) White of the Burwood Community, Penny (Dennis) Southall of Williamson County; brothers, Joe & Ralph Crafton of Akron, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home with Brother Dudley Stovall officiating. Burial followed in Johnson Hollow Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Elaine Green, Memorial Chairman, 1505 Coleman Rd. Franklin, TN 37064 or to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd, Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852. Visitation was 4 – 8 p.m. Friday and two hours prior to the service at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home.

I have not found any other documents that his first name Jasper was used, not sure if his name was assumed Jasper by the census taker in the 1940 census or not. His grandfather's name was Jasper Ewin Smith so it is possible that was his given name and J E only used the initials the rest of his life.
Only his birth certificate could confirm his name.
