Civil War Union Army Officer. Enlisted as a Sergeant in Company G, 2nd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on May 28, 1861. Served through the 1st Bull Run, Peninsular, 2nd Bull Run and Antietam Campaigns. Promoted to 1st Sergeant on October 27, 1862. Served in the Battles of Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville before being commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in Company F on May 15, 1863 after 1st Lieutenant Isaac Harris resigned. Served as the Company’s 2nd Lieutenant for the next year until his muster out of service on June 24, 1864, having served 3 full years.
