MARRIAGE: Wayne Co., Ky Vital Records, Vol. 2, June Baldwin Bork, pg. 132
Small, James and Maryann Wallis. Surety, William Small. Bond dated 4 July 1822, Md. 11 July 1822 by Richard Barrier. Note: "This is to certify that I have no objections against James and my daughter Mary Ann joining in matrimony." 2 July 1822 by John Wallis Witness: William Small

In the history of James Hill by Mary Hill Stephen (copy in my possession), James and Jane Small Hill went to Texas to avoid the Civil War. They were on their way home when Jane Small Hill received word that her mother had died in the spring of 1868.

Tombstone: Rev. James Small and Mary Ann Wallace Small are buried in the family cemetery on their farm just over the Dade county line, between Everton and Ash Grove. The cemetery has been destroyed by farm animals. Only four graves are covered with a concrete block with pieces of headstones inserted for James and Mary Ann, and a compete headstone for their daughter Jane Small and her husband, James Hill.

In addition to the seven children linked below, three sons were born and died in McMinn Co., Tennessee:
Thomas Henderson, 5 Oct 1825 - 29 Sept 1834
George W., 7 July 1834 - 11 Sept 1835
Joseph M.B., 30 May 1836 - 29 Nov 1840
