Her father John Allen Beeler was born on June 28, 1867, in Towanda, Illinois, where his maternal grandmother, Mary Livingston Brown Mead Hilts (1810-1897), lived at the time of his birth. John met Amanda Beeler when she was working in Denver. They married on July 17, 1913 in Chicago. He was the general manager of the Denver Tram Company when they married. He was the president of the Beeler Organization, Inc., Consultant Engineers, in New York City at the time of his death.

Esther had two sisters, Betty Malvina Beeler (born on October 22, 1916 in Chicago, Illinois) and Rosemary Virginia Beeler Knight (born on March 8, 1921 in New York City).

She married Louis W. Evangelist on July 28, 1941 in Scarsdale, Westchester County, New York. They had one child. Craig Evangelist was born on February 17, 1946 in White Plains, Westchester County, New York and died June 28, 1946 in White Plains from complications related to a heart defect.
