Rachel Eudora Largent Palmore Summy was born on May 28, 1916 in Lufkin. She was the sixth of nine children born to Fannie Berry Largent and Will Largent. She attended Kurth Ward elementary school and graduated from Lufkin High School in 1935.

Ms. Summy married Lawrence Earl Palmore in 1936 and raised four children while working outside the home and supporting Lawrence in his construction business. Following the death of Lawrence Palmore, Ms. Summy married Earl Summy in 1974.

The couple spent ten happy years traveling and enjoying their family. She loved cooking, gardening and helping others. Ms. Summy was actively involved in her church (Carpenter's Way of Lufkin), adored her family and particularly enjoyed genealogy. She was extremely proud to be a sixth generation Texan, a long-time member of both the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (Emeritus). She also was commissioned a "Yellow Rose of Texas" by Gov. Perry in 2006. Ms. Summy epitomized the spirit of a pioneer Texas woman.

Ms. Summy passed away at the age of 94 on March 18, in Richardson, Tx. surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her sister Iva Nell Largent Haley; two daughters, son-in-laws, and daughter-in-law, Nancy Louise Palmore Lake Pickle and Durwood Pickle, Judith Palmore Martin and Tommy Martin, and Dee Palmore; grandchildren Johnny and Denise Lake, Brad and Angela Palmore, Wade Palmore, Stephen and Edna Lake, Kyla Martin, Shana and Chris McCracken; great grandchildren Lauren, Rachel and Sara Lake, Taylor Lake Kee and James Kee, Kristi Palmore, Julie and Drew Palmore, Katie and Jackson Lake, Ian and Kate McCracken; and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces.

She is proceeded in death by her first husband Lawrence Palmore, her second husband Earl Summy, her sons Alan Palmore and Larry Palmore, and grandson David Lake.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, March 22, at Gipson Funeral Home. A celebration service of Ms. Summy's life will be held on Wednesday, March 23, at 10:30 a.m. at Gipson Funeral Home.
