Cave Explorer. Discovered Crystal Cave January 18, 1917. Was trapped in Sand Cave near Cave City, Kentucky for over two weeks, so his exact death date is not known. He was actually buried 4 times--- body was at first left in cave; then later removed and buried outside entrance to Crystal Cave, then body placed inside Crystal Cave; and finally at church cemetery in Mammoth Cave National Park. Book by Brucker and Murray, called "Trapped," describes his ordeal.
