SIXTUS SHUMWAY MEETS WITH FATAL ACCIDENT TUESDAY

By Florence Galbraith.

Sixtus Shumway was accidentally killed at his vanadium mine in Long canyon, in a cave-in last Tuesday morning. The rock ledge under which he was working somehow broke loose and it is estimated that over five tons of rock and dirt fell on him. Connie, a grandson, was the only person with him when it happened. He ran about five miles to the Harris Shumway camp for help. Funeral services are pending the arrival of some of his children from Salt Lake City, but it is thought it will be held some time Wednesday in the Blanding Ward chapel. The accident happened about 10 a.m. Connie was cut, bruised about the legs when the accident happened, but otherwise seemed unharmed. Mr. Shumway was badly crushed.
