She was born in St. Joseph, MO, April 11, 1917, the first child of James Hurley McDowell, Sr. and Etta Lucinda (Hawkins) McDowell.
She is survived by her four children and their families: Jeffrey Boyer, Prairie Village, KS, Deborah Harrod, Petersburg, VA, Gregory Boyer, Lansing, KS and Jennifer Boyer, Parkville, MO. In addition, three of her siblings survive her, Venis McDowell of St. Joseph, James McDowell, Jr. of Anaheim Hills, CA and Nina Sue (McDowell) Fankhauser of Ft. Collins, CO. She is also survived by three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin Boyer, who died in 1977, her sister Nouriee (McDowell) Kerns, two brothers, Mathew and Pawnie McDowell, and two other brothers, Raymond and Kenneth, who died in youth.
Louris was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Leavenworth, where she served for 49 years as Church School Secretary. She was active in, and a past vice president of the Leavenworth County Women's Democratic Club, and served for many years at precinct voting polls. She had been active in the Muncie Elementary School PTA in the 1950's and 1960's.
All those who knew her will miss Louris greatly. She has been dedicated to her family, has spoken fondly and often of her parents and siblings, and kept in contact with lifelong friends. Close friends and family members will miss her generous spirit, her astute observations of the world around her, her curiosity, her energy and competence, her humor, and her unflagging determination. She was greatly loved.
