OBITUARY

Mrs. Mariam (Ballenger) Brun died April 1, 1905, aged 73 years and 3 days. She was born in Randolph county, when a child moved to the farm near Bloomington which was her home till death. At the age of 15 she married John H. Ballenger and to this union were born 10 children: Levi N. Ballenger now of Kirksville, Benj. H., John S., Oscar T., Millard L., Curtis F., Mrs. Kate Mayhew, Mrs. Mollie Hale, Mrs. Sarah Smith, and Mrs. Lula Dohring living in Bevier and near the old home. Her first husband died in March, 1867, the widow being left with 10 children ages from two to 19 years. She married to Gregor Brun in 1895, who survives her. She made many self sacraifices to care for so many children. She was an honest, industrious, economical and Christian loving mother. She and her first husband became members of the Christian church in 1818 under the preaching of Rev. E. H. Lawson. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Kitchen of Moberly at her home April2, at 2 p.m. in the presence of her 10 children and the majority of her 18 grandchildren, two brothers Robert and John Skinner and many other relatives and friends to her mourn lose. Her remains were place in the family cemetery near by known as the Skinner graveyard.
