Taps Sound - For Lee Roy Baugh Who Saw Much Service In World War And Was Gassed.
Taps has sounded for another World War veteran who gave his life for his country--Lee Roy Baugh died this morning at four thirty o'clock at his home near Fairview as a result of disabilities he received in the line of duty while actively engaged in the great conflict.
He was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Baugh east of this city March 28, 1899, aged 23 years, 6 months. While employed on a ranch in Wyoming he enlisted July 20, 1917 in the U.S. service and was sent overseas shortly after. He saw seventy-five days continuous services in the front line trenches. He participated in four major engagements in the last of which he was severely gassed super-inducing the ailment with which he so bravely battled the last few years of his life. He was honorably discharged from the serviced July 10, 1919. He spent six months in the government sanitarium at Otteen, NC and six weeks in the Valley View sanitarium near Louisville, Ky. He came home, built an outdoor sleeping room, doing all in his power to prolong his days. He was brave and even in the last stages of his disease refused to take his bed until he was overpowered by physical weakness six weeks ago he succumbed to the inevitable.
He was a member of the Gillian Post American Legion and all of the members who can do so will attend the funeral services to be conducted at the Fairview church Friday afternoon at two o'clock.
He is survived by the parents, two brothers, Clarence who is at home and Floyd Baugh, who is in the US service and is now stationed in the Hawaiian Islands.
The burial will be made in Fairview cemetery.
