Amarilla Grace Spracklin was born near Blairstown, Benton Co., Iowa to Daniel D. Spracklin (Community Cemetery, Millersburg, IA) and Elizabeth Keller (Titler Cemetery, Marengo, IA). Daniel was the son of John A. Spracklin and Lydia Goss. Elizabeth was the daughter of John Keller and Mary Anne Delano. Amarilla left home and migrated to Minnesota where she met and married on 27 July 1878 to George Angus Barclay. George and Amarilla are given credit for being the founders of the town of Pine River, Minnesota. George was shot and killed on 29 October, 1898 in Pine River and is buried in Evergreen cemetery in Brainerd.
Jefferson G. Dawes came to Pine River a little after the death of George. He was a flour salesman. He became involved in the politics of the town and with Amarilla they platted the town of Pine River. He became mayor. They married 2 September, 1902 in St. Paul, Hennepin County and upon their return there was a big celebration. J.G. built Amarilla a house which still stands and he went to Longville and built a hotel there. They divorced in 1909 and he moved to Brainerd where J.G. died Oct. 4, 1933. He never remarried. He is buried in Evergreen but has no tombstone marker.
Amarilla continued to live in Pine River on her own as Mrs. Dawes until 24 June 1919 when she married for the third time to George Urton. She remained with George Urton till his death on 13 March 1939 running her store. He is buried in the Pine Ridge Cemetery per his obituary notice.
