Born 32 years after the inauguration of the first president of the United States, Nelson Draper, lacking one month of being 95 years old, died from infirmities of age at 6:30 Wednesday morning at his home four miles northeast of Findlay on the Port Clinton road. He was in his usual good health until last Monday when he commenced to fall.
Mr. Draper was born in Fort Ann, Washington county, New York, where he lived with his parents, Moses and Marcella Draper, until he was nine years old, the family moving to Hudson, Summit county, Ohio; in the fall of 1831.
CAME TO COUNTY IN 1853
Here the youth lived his early manhood, coming to the present home March 24, 1853, with his brother, Luke. They took 260 acres together, clearing the land themselves and building a brick house on what is now the deceased's farm. David C. Routzon, who lives two miles southwest of Mr. Draper's farm, made the bricks with which the first house was constructed.
In 1858 Mr. Draper married Miss Mary C. Bear of Findlay, who died June 2, 1915. Both Mr. Draper and his wife were members of the Salem M.E. church in Cass township.
THOSE WHO SURVIVE
Three children were born, Mary C., having died 30 years ago. The two surviving are; Mrs. R.N. Galloway, living at home, and Samuel Draper of Allen township. Six grandchildren, Mrs. Hattie McCracken, Cass township; Mrs. Mary Carr, Allen township; Mrs. Charles Brust, California; Mrs Hazel Hossman, Akron, Ohio; Berna Draper, Allen township and Warren Galloway, Cass township survive. Five great grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Draper was well known in the county, his venerable age and his inexhaustible fund of stories of the early years of our nation, making him an interesting talker.
The funeral was held at the home, with Rev. A.A. Thomas of Arcadia in charge. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.
