He graduated form Marquette University Wisconsin, with a B.S. degree in 1952, then served as a US Marine Corps jet fighter and helicopter pilot, leaving active duty as a Colonel in 1960. He graduated with a M.A. degree from California State College in 1960, was a instructor in philosophy and political science, at Santa Ana College and was a member of the California State Senate, (1964-70). In 1970, he was elected as a Republican, to the Ninety-first Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of US Representative James B. Utt, reelected to the Ninety-second Congress and served until 1973. An unsuccessful candidate for nomination, he again served as a member of the California State Senate, (1978-82). He died of cancer at age 70.
