"Algie Shrode, ARROYO GRANDE - Algie Shrode, 91, died Thursday (yesterday) morning at an Arroyo Grande Convalescent hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Arroyo Grande District Cemetery, with Arroyo Lodge No. 274 F&AM officiating.
Mr. Shrode was born July 4, 1883 in Duarte, Cal. A retired oil production driller, he had lived in South County for 22 years. He was a member of the Santa Ana Silvercord Lodge No. 505 F&AM; a member of the Sciots No. 43 of Long Beach, and a member of the Grover City Grange.
Mr. Shrode is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Funeral Chapel of Grover City."
- Five Cities Times-Press-Recorder (San Luis Obispo County, CA), November 8, 1974.

Note: 1900 census and his WWI draft registration both give Algie's year of birth as 1883, as does a family Bible record. Curiously, in a 1925 passport application, Algie Shrode swore that he was born on July 4, 1884, in Monrovia, CA. In an affidavit attached to the application, his father, William J. Shrode, deposed the same.

Algie Shrode, age 21, m. Cora D. Fuller, age 21, Nov. 17, 1903, Los Angeles Co., CA (California, County Marriages, 1850-1952 at familysearch.org).
